I promised that I would show you what I crocheted as Christmas presents
in this post so I've got heaps of photos to show you...

Here is a close-up of my crocheted snowflakes made with finer crochet cotton...
I found this mirrored style button in my stash & thought added sparkle...
They were made into small garlands that I gave to some friends...

This on looks yellow but was more cream...

This snowflake is crocheted in acrylic yarn but a similar design to the cotton ones...
I found the pattern on
Miss Lucy's Attic24 but as is usual for me I make some changes...
sometimes you need to change designs to accommodate the different yarns, I feel...

These snowflake garland had two different sized snowflakes...
just a row taken off the larger one...
It's amazing what you can find in your stash when you have a look...
these pearls set off these acrylic yarn snowflakes...

I made several of these for the Grandies to give as teacher presents...

Then I found a star design here at
LA is my Beat that looked nice & quick...
was so lovely to sit out on our back verandah to crochet...

I used lots of bright colours & finished them off with iridescent crystal beads...

They made up into wonderful garlands as teacher presents...
Now the Grandies want some of their own...

I did a lot of experimenting with stiffening... as I love crocheted balls...
It is fascinating to be able to look through crochet...
Read lots of info on the internet & found cooked cornstarch worked well...
I've not seen corn starch that Mum used to stiffen her crochet with for
way too many years... but something clicked in my brain...
corn starch & cornflour might be the same...
so back to the internet & I was right... so off I went... Experimenting again...
We have a real problem with our heat & humidity here...
as some glues make the crochet stiff for a while
but as soon as there is rain around & the humidity hits
They collapse... or it takes a week or two to cure & harden well...

This is a design I had made up for on one of my Art Rocks so just
crocheted it twice & then on the last row, crocheted it together...

You can no doubt see by this that I love beading, so of course I had to thread iridescent crystal beads through the top & centre.... my friend loved it.

Here are a couple more Christmas balls that didn't quite cure in time...

I saw a design in a crochet mag & started to make it & soon realised
I was making it with a five sided motif & then thought the stars that
Sarah London had patterns for, would work a treat...
having five points so I was able to crochet them together as I went.
A bit of a challenge at first but once I had made one I knew
where I was going so they came together quickly...
Well enough for this time more next post...

Bethel,
Everything is wonderful. I really like the beads in the Snowflakes. To make a garland out of them too was a really cool idea. You've been working very well with the stiffening. Got there in the end didn't you? Now those crocheted balls are a pure delight. I love the lilac one in particular. Isn't it nice to find a place to sit and do your favourite thing? Your spot outside is idyllic! The stars are wonderful colours all such a treat.
What will you do next Christmas? You know I think we'll have to start making presents earlier this year. It's always such a rush with everything else going on I always find.
Those stars look easy to do, I reckon I'll have to try those. I finished another basket yesterday. I know another.... Will post soon. I wanted to get it out of the way, as I want to concentrate on the blankets for the Elderly. If anyone of your readers want to join in please feel free.
I love everything Bethel. I've amended my blog, given you a mention I hope you'll pop over.
Roads terrible here, so icy.
Yucky day again,
Hugs and Love Suex
